( Alayne fiddles with the bracelet around her wrist for a moment before speaking - she's hesitant about addressing the whole of a city that she cannot see. After all, it's dangerous to be Sansa Stark these days, now that she's a traitor accused of regicide. But amongst the midst of all these voices, it's unlikely that hers will be recognized ( or so she thinks, as she does not know details of the network yet ). She is Alayne now, not Sansa. They will not know her. Lies and arbor gold, Alayne thinks. No one takes notice of a bastard girl. )

Gods of Asgard, I wanted to thank you for choosing me for such an important task. This is an honour that I did not expect. But I must think of my lord father - he worries so, and I wouldn't want him to fret. I'm only a young girl - surely someone more gallant should be chosen for a deed like this.

If it please you, I would ask that you send me back to him.

( but alayne doesn't expect much: no one gets what they want without a price. all she can do is ask. )

( it's our love that they want, alayne realizes. men can be forced to do all sorts of things; but having them willing to do so is another thing altogether. these gifts of powers, these supposed freedoms - she thinks she understands how this game is played. )

And do you fight for the realm, my lady?

I would for my realm but not for this.

[ still, it is not entirely true. She pauses to think of it. Of Arthur and Merlin and her friends. After a moment, she adds: ]

Here I would fight for those I love. And I would fight both the enemies of the city and the Gods if those shall pose a threat to them.

( she would have fought for them, too. her family, all of them dead now. were she born a gallant knight with a sword, she would have marched beside robb and perhaps thought nothing of it. but instead she was a girl, armed with only words and prayers that were no good to anyone. it's an embittering thought, but alayne appreciates morgana's conviction. )

( only, the songs were not real. she must not forget that. )

Not at all, sweet lady. I know they would do the same for me. I was fortunate enough to have a father who agreed to let me learn how to fight with a sword as a man would. After he passed, my guardian allowed me to keep my lessons.

( she should be scandalized. sansa stark would have been scandalized, and immediately reminded of arya, with her wild hair and the times she played at swords with sticks. arya and her stupid dancing master, running around everywhere catching cats. it seems odd that a lady as refined as morgana would do anything of the same.

but alayne thinks she knows, now. it's power. it's protection. it is more substantial than flimsy lies. )

It seems like a frightening thing, to wield a sword.

It is, at times.

[ She may seem fearless to some, Lady Morgana in all her daring nature, fighting a sword like a man; but she is right, the fear is always there. ]

But it frightened me much more that I may need to and not know how. Knights are a protection, of course. But I would not depend on them.

( knights were never a protection to sansa stark. joffrey had used them to punish her for robb's victories in the field, when it would not be proper for him to lay a hand on her himself. she remembers with bitterness, how easily they complied. how none of the kingsguard, the greatest knights in the realm ever protested the deeds they were told to do. it is folly to rely on men who follow orders for protection. )

Do you continue your training as knights do, even in this land?

I practice, yes. I fear I shall not be quite as proficient if I don't.

You could do anything that you please, my Lady. Here, especially, there are no expectations and no rules for women to abide.
