( Alayne fiddles with the bracelet around her wrist for a moment before speaking - she's hesitant about addressing the whole of a city that she cannot see. After all, it's dangerous to be Sansa Stark these days, now that she's a traitor accused of regicide. But amongst the midst of all these voices, it's unlikely that hers will be recognized ( or so she thinks, as she does not know details of the network yet ). She is Alayne now, not Sansa. They will not know her. Lies and arbor gold, Alayne thinks. No one takes notice of a bastard girl. )

Gods of Asgard, I wanted to thank you for choosing me for such an important task. This is an honour that I did not expect. But I must think of my lord father - he worries so, and I wouldn't want him to fret. I'm only a young girl - surely someone more gallant should be chosen for a deed like this.

If it please you, I would ask that you send me back to him.

( but alayne doesn't expect much: no one gets what they want without a price. all she can do is ask. )

Perhaps once the battle is over, you'll be sent home like you request. As it stands, I've only seen people leave against their will.

They probably won't answer. If they do they won't send you home.

I don't think they like to talk to us.

I have not heard tell of any battle within these borders. Only that my duty was here, to bring colour to this land.

( duty, they said. but alayne has other duties. to her father, whom she owes a debt to. the plight of a strange land is pressing, but there are other things that take more importance. )

Is there a war being waged in Asgard?

( it sounds like a chastisement, alayne thinks. she is used to the gods not answering her - how long had sansa waited, in king's landing? how many times had she prayed? perhaps petyr's machinations of a rescue could be the gods taking mercy on her. she almost does not expect them to answer, nor to take any notice of her. but that small, glimmering hope is still there as long as they exist at all. )

Dunno, that's the rumor on the street that I've heard. Something about battles. And we were attacked last month by outside forces. Seems like the Gods need everyone they've summoned here.

Usually there isn't. [There's just the slightest bit of emphasis on "usually" that implies that consequences aren't unheard of.] Just don't get your hopes up either; they basically do whatever they want.

( it is not humility, no. nor is it self-deprecation. people have expectations of what they wish to hear is all. she had learned a long time ago that it was easier to speak within those boundaries than anything else. )

( few things are, she thinks, but only nods until she realizes that the gesture can't be seen. the idea of speaking to someone she cannot see is strange and daunting. )

Have they summoned us as bannermen? Do they...expect us to fight on their behalf? They can't possibly -

( there are so many soldiers and knights in westeros, so many men capable of bearing arms. alayne has no understanding as to why they might have called for her: she knows no useful contribution that she could make in a war. besides, she's sick of battles already - there had been too much bloodshed in the war of the five kings. she's tired of seeing men die before her eyes.

( gods usually do. but that sounds terrible - it sounds like doubt, and alayne quickly shoves that thought away. it isn't right for her to think such things. )

You just got here, right? They don't tell you all the reasons you're here when you show up. [He's bitter.] I guess they figure we'll behave better if they don't.

Don't think gallant is really what these guys're going for.

[ i am only a young girl. how many times had dany said that, both aloud and in her own mind? too many. she found a sort of courage in the girl for admitting as such. the girl's manner of speech marks her as perhaps a familiar face in a sea of strange customs and stranger words.

[ children and tender girls, such are the people that the Gods bring here and Morgana has to wonder what do they expect of them. Why bring such sweet souls into a city of war? They are not warriors, there is benefit of it. ]

but he is so sure. her words, her words speak so much - they tell him that she is of westeros. her words spark a flicker of hope but he cannot be sure. the device hides her face. please - by the seven - let it be her. the last they'd interacted it was through cersei's words, and he's only had small assurances that she was alive. in the back of his mind he was never expecting to see her again.

I don't think that can be requested. People come and go all the time, so you might find yourself spirited away when it's less expected.

What do you think they need? They said it was a great honor to be chosen.

( but she has no doubt that those are only pretty words said to motivate them. alayne has no loyalty to asgard, only to her father, and she knows when she's being manipulated now. these are not deft schemes, but they seem to be effective amongst the citizens nonetheless. )
