I've got a question for the people-countries here. Or the country-people. Is there something you prefer to be called? I don't want to be rude, but I still don't really understand everything about it yet.

[An urgent look.]

But Spain said that sometimes, when a country is gone, the person just disappears! Is that true? Is it like dying, or do they go somewhere else? It doesn't seem right, for a person to just disappear into thin air after existing. I mean, I know no one lasts forever, but that's different from going 'poof.'

If you could answer me, I'd really appreciate it. I want to understand more about this.

Who's gotten angry at you? [She looks perturbed by that, and a bit protective. She's such an innocent girl, she doesn't deserve that.]

No, it doesn't at all. With all of us from different worlds, people should be understanding. It's just bad temper, that's all.

Bad temper?

Some people will complain or be rude no matter what you do. Bad temper. There's no point in giving them any time.

Do I have a bad temper? [ Her frown deepens thoughtfully. Gothel hadn't liked her to complain or talk back, and she's often talked about Rapunzel being temperamental , but she isn't sure if they're the same thing... ] It's okay that people are upset, though. I know I don't know very many things. And - Mother says it's not attractive to be naive or foolish or to ask too many questions. I do all of those things so I can understand why they'd be annoyed.

[Nakama looks startled for a moment, but then she returns the smile.] I don't think there's anything wrong with asking questions. If there are things you don't understand, you should learn about them. Especially somewhere like here, where there could be different social customs and you could offend someone.

Social customs?

Well... things like... well, in Japan we bow when we meet someone, but in America they shake hands. It's hard for me to get used to shaking hands with people, and sometimes I get strange looks when I bow. They're just different customs based on different places.

Oh! I've noticed those things too. People do them differently you're right. Wow. That's amazing.

I never bowed or shook hands with anyone before coming here. I don't know what people do in Corona...

[Nakama can't help but wonder how that's possible. She never met anyone...? But she stays quiet about it for now.]

That's why people should be patient. Sometimes you don't even know about your own home, so how should you know about other worlds?

[ Fifteen! Rapunzel remembers being fifteen. She was four and a half feet tall and spent a whole summer jarring preserves because she'd just discovered blueberry jelly tasted good with breakfast. Now she knows better.

Blueberry jelly tastes much better with lunch.

Not that she's offended, though. More...intrigued. Intrigued and also a little confused. ]

No! No, Nakama, it's -- It's okay. [ She smiles in what she hopes is a reassuring and not crazy way. ] Don't be sorry when I asked. [ this with a silly giggle ] You're prooobably not the only person who thinks that anyway.

Why, how old are you really?

Um. I'll be eighteen soon.

Oh, good, I wasn't too far off.

So how old do you think that I am, then? It's only fair. [She's expecting 10, 11, based off her pudgy face and shapeless body.]

You know, I really have no idea! [ How does one judge a person's age anyway? It's only from her own experiences that she feels any surprise at the discrepancy in what people assume of hers. ] I haven't asked anyone else, so I don't have a full picture of what humans in general are supposed to look like at certain ages. I only know how I looked. And as far as how you act...

[Somehow this girl reminds her of Namine - everything she says speaks of an aching loneliness, of isolation. It worries her, but still feels too personal to ask about. So she simply shrugs, looking curious.]

How do I act?

[ a shrug ] Nice. Not conniving or wicked or vain the way I thought women were meant to be. You seem - strong. You know? Like my mother. [ it's a compliment really ]
