While there are many myths throughout my life I have found to have a root in truth, I had not expected Asgard to be a place I would ever visit. Being fresh from my home world, I long to return. From what I've been lead to understand, frequent and consistent social interaction is the most basic of ways to ensure that happens. And so I reach out to you, fellow victims.

I have read some of what's available to view on this network. It seems as though possessions occurred recently, and a grave tragedy was involved. I would like to offer my condolences to the respective parties. And while I understand the need to focus on lighter things in the wake of such tragedy, it disturbs me greatly to know that this Thiazi is capable of such things while all of our native powers have been replaced. How are we to defend ourselves against an assault on the mind stripped of the very capabilities needed to do so? 

I understand this is not a choice for Asgard's gods, but I challenge them: you are the ones who brought us in; you are the reason we are here. How do you plan to defend us against further assault? We are a precious resource to you. Surely, we are worth defending. Surely, we are worth taking action for instead of simply waiting for reaction to be necessary, and then stepping in. Surely, you have a plan.

If you choose to see it that way, yes. Bringing you here - facilitating your mere existence in this world - is a feat that should not have been possible at all. The power it takes to draw someone from their own world, to link our souls to theirs - it is nothing short of incredible.

[ His voice is a low, lyric murmur. ]

But should there be anything you ever need, please never hesitate to ask.

It so happens I have another question, as something you've said intrigues me. The process of linking a soul must require a great deal of power. I am curious, I admit, as to how exactly it works.

[And more importantly: what it means for his Horcruxes.]

In short? We gods are born of this world. That allows us to reach into the power of it. [ Said in very, very simple terms. ]

And so by using the power of this world, you are able to link souls to your own, allowing you to be able to bring those not born of this world into it. Am I right?

That is it exactly, yes. [ He smiles graciously at the bracelet, though. ] It's not precise, but it is very strong.

[Here, Voldemort takes a moment to calculate his options. How much is he willing to risk Freyr knowing to get his answer? How much does Freyr know or understand of his situation, as Baldr was the one who called him? How easy would it be for Freyr to give this very information to someone else, someone who is his enemy or Thiazi herself? How easily could Freyr access this information even without Voldemort saying anything to him? How much do they understand of the soul situation? How much would it effect his life here in Asgard? Could he use it to return?

In the end, there are more questions than he is entirely comfortable leaving unanswered. And so he presses on.]

This place draws in people from all sorts of worlds. Does this mean the souls of the people here are similar enough in composition to all be brought in the same way, as a catch-all? Or is it slightly different for each world?

Perhaps 'soul' is a misnomer. I use it to mean the essence of a person - that lively, passionate part, the spark of life - that is what we reach for. It is not that they are composed similarly, but that they are all the same. All worlds out there were born from this one, and the life created from those worlds are simply life, if that makes sense at all. And - oh, it may not, it's hard to put into words, and I apologize for that.

Which is to say, it's not the soul that's been bonded, but the life essence instead? Is that correct?

That's how I would say it, yes.

Is the soul related, in that case? Or do you leave our souls and take only the life force?

[A pause, and then...]

Is that possible?

I quite believe it depends on the soul.

Depends on what, exactly?

The condition of the soul. The definition of the word. The rules governing the world itself. So many things.

When we're brought here, our magic is taken from us in order for us to survive in this realm. If the soul is directly affected by our magic, then... Reason suggests it would remain outside of this realm, as well.
