[When the feed starts, there's Inara sitting on her couch, nursing a cup of tea. She looks a little washed out, tired even, but such is the effect of having been gray for however long she'd been. She is slowly getting more color in her cheeks, so for that, she is most grateful.

She lowers the cup and offers a small smile.]

Nǐmén hǎo. Seems many are coming back from unexpected... uncoloring. [She frowns slightly because that just does not even sound right. But, it's what had happened to many.]

I'm not entirely certain how long I was not myself, but it would be nice to know what I've missed in my absence. Perhaps someone would be kind enough to fill me in?

I hope the two of you are well and staying out of trouble. Perhaps we could all meet up, maybe for dinner?

[His attitude makes her eyebrows raise a little, though not in a bad way... She's not met many who are... Actually decent right after their arrival. She finds it refreshing.

She smiles.]

It does. I found myself among... friends I hadn't expected to see again. Have you been lucky enough to find people from your home here?

[Her head angles a little to the side.]

I like to think of this as a... vacation, I suppose. From what I understand, when we're sent back to our homes, we're returned to the exact moment we were took from. If that's true, perhaps that will give you a little comfort and let you at least attempt to enjoy things here?

No such luck. [ though he actually hadn't even considered that possibility... he figured he'd be the only way drawn into this mess. ] Wait, you mean that happens? So there could be other people I know here?

[ ...okay that definitely deserves some looking into. ]

Yeah, someone told me that too. Time stops or something like that. [ a shrug. ] That makes things a little easier to accept, but I still don't like getting dragged into something like this without so much as a please.

[ sigh. ] Sorry, it's just... my friends were really in a lot of trouble.

Well yes, that's exactly what I mean. Though I must warn you, they might be from a different time than you. Asgard likes to pull us from all over time and space.

[She flashes him an understanding smile.] There's no need to apologize to me, truly. I understand.

That's... confusing. [ he's not sure what else to say on that. ] But I guess that's better than nothing. If it happens, I'll deal with it then.

[ he pauses, before giving a stiff nod. he's probably not the only one pulled from such circumstances... and even if it wasn't quite as dramatic for everybody else, they all must have people they want to get back to. ]

That was Chinese, wasn't it? Haven't heard that in a while.

It can be, but over time you get use to how confusing things can be.

[Mostly.]

It was! I don't get a chance to speak it as often as I would like. Do you speak it?

By now, I'm pretty used to things not making much sense...

[ compared to some parts of his life, this should be a walk in the park. ]

A little bit. I spent some time in China... a while back. Nice country.

Then you'll fit in fantastically.

[Which might be good? Better than fighting everything.]

I must admit I'm jealous. I've only read about China, so I can only imagine how lovely it was.

Yeah... I mean, it was a little busy when I was there, and not exactly at its loveliest, but...

[ that was probably on account of the whole boxer rebellion going on at the time. not to mention that the group he was travelling with was... well... evil. ]

Still, nice place. I'd recommend visiting if you get the chance. You know, once you get back home.

As much as I would love to do just that, it isn't at all possible. You see, where I'm from, humanity hasn't lived on Earth for quite some time.

Really?

[ huh. ]

...it didn't get destroyed by an apocalypse, did it? [ hopefully not one originating from LA? one he might be responsible for... ]

Really.

[Now that causes her eyebrows to raise.]

No, it was just... used up. We depleted its resources and so it couldn't sustain us anymore. Why would you ask about an apocalypse?

Oh, okay. That's not so bad.

[ he lets out a slight sigh of relief, before realizing... ]

Wait, I mean, that is bad, but... Not as bad as it could have been. [ he definitely can't be blamed for global warming, at least. ] It's just, uh, a worry I have I guess. One of those things I lose sleep over.

Oh, I see.

It's truly not as bad as you'd imagine. We've managed to terraform many planets and moons to resemble Earth in some way. The planet I'm from, Shinon, is very lovely.

Hopefully you'll be able to get some rest while you're a guest here.

Teraforming, huh? [ he has... no idea what that means, but he won't admit that so he just nods a bit hesitantly. ] Well... as long as you're doing fine, that's what counts. [ a pause. ] So humans actually manage to leave Earth and live in outer space, huh? What's that like?

[ he has to admit, that is an interesting picture of the future... something he's never really considered too deeply. he's always been too busy wondering if there even will be a future. ]

Oh. Yeah... I'll be able to be up during the day and sleep at night. I'm really looking forward to... that. [ okay, that might sound a little strange, and he's more or less been able to live on a normal schedule lately... but still, something to be excited about. ]

The planets or the actual living in space? [She does understand what he's asking though. She smiles and then gestures with her hand.] Space, it's lovely. Living on a ship can be a quiet thing... Or rather crowded, depending on the crew you're with and... Well how long you're out there.

[Her head tilts a little to the side.] I quite miss it.

[She studies him for a moment, trying to figure out exactly what he's saying.] I hope you don't mind me asking.... But was there a reason you weren't able to be up during the day?

Quiet. Huh. The vastness of space... [ he pauses for a moment, before shaking his head. ] I guess I've always had a thing for the stars. Never thought I might get a chance to... actually live among them.

[ if he makes it that far, anyway. ]

I... it was the job. Night shift. [ a shake of the head. ] And I've just always been more comfortable at night.

You never know. The ingenuity of the human race has never been lacking.

[She nods slowly.]

Ah, well, perhaps here you'll be able to find a job with better hours?

You're right about that. They never cease to amaze.

[ he probably should have said "we" there, but whoops. ]

Planning on it. It's been a while since I've had to work a normal job... but it should be fun.

[She caught that little slip up and it does cause her eyebrows to lift a little, but she won't say anything about it... Yet.]

What sort of skills do you possess, Angel?

[ skills, huh? a good question... ]

I have a lot of life experience. That counts for something, right? Oh, and I'm good with languages. Not too bad with art either. [ a pause. ] I think that's it.

I believe it does. Oh, art. I do love art, and languages. Perhaps you'd like to practice your Mandarin with me sometime? I rarely get a chance to use it here.

I'll have to brush up a bit, but sure. It's always good to revisit something like that.

Wonderful, I'm quite looking forward to this. Do you like tea?

Oh. Yeah. Sure. I mean... tea is good. I like tea.

[Inara might look a little amused.]

Good, then I will be sure to have some ready whenever you decide would be a good time to do this.
