clockeyes: (quickly go and hurry now)

eleventh minute

Justice.

[It's a strange sight, really- there's Cheriour, clock eyes always ticking, and there is a gentle sort of smile on his face as usual, but what is in his hands might be a surprise to some who haven't seen him carry it around.]

[It's a
sword, and an old one at that. He's rubbing it down with a cloth, polishing it, though the slight dark tarnishes at it's end are impossible to remove. And he continues to speak at the bracelet placed next to him, hand never stopping its movements down the weapon.]

I'm not sure that many people know what justice really is, honestly! I mean, when you talk about someone being just, it means they know what is right. They can look at a situation and judge accordingly, making sure that their decisions go accordingly to their own moral compass.

But justice is really more than that. Justice is...hmmm, how to put this? It's just something that you have to follow through with. It's the feeling you get when you watch an innocent person get hurt. It's seeing a bad person really get what they deserve after all the harm and pain they've caused others. It's this force, really, that drives you to do the utmost good for people you can do.

[There's a dreamy sort of look on his face, like he's talking about something adored and prized over all- it's quite obvious that he has really strong feelings about this.]

But! Of course, not many people think about it that way. Some people think it can be only found in courtroom cases and trials, which is true, but it's so much more widespread! Justice is more than a jury and a judge, anybody can go through with it. It's found in everybody.

...At least, that's what I think.

[And he smiles over at the bracelet with a pondering look.]

What is really the definition of justice, do you think?
secondborn: (I really don't want to talk about it)

[Well in that case he can make it look like he's just making eye contact? It's so weird.]

More... in general? It's a little hard to describe, Balance is... it's how the world survives.

My world, anyway.
secondborn: (forgot why I came in here)

Yes. Life is Balanced with death, creation with destruction, and time Balances itself. Nearly everything is Balanced by one of those, in the end.

[Except when the whole thing is tipped, like it is now, but he's not mentioning that.]
secondborn: (seems nice)

[He has to stop and think about how to explain this. He's never had to explain it before. Not like this, anyway.]

Well... yes and no. We don't go around measuring it, but there are those who are... more attuned to it, I guess? Each Balance is watched over by a Keeper, and there are those who are Gifted on one side of the Balance, and all of these people generally have an innate understanding of the Balance and how it fits together. Everyone does, really, but these people most of all.
secondborn: (tired of all of this)

[He tenses, but answers after a moment's hesitation.]

Usually, yes. It falls to everyone gifted to the Balance to keep it as much as possible, but the Keeper has a better understanding of how the Balance works in the world as a whole.
secondborn: (did you really just say that)

[There's a moment of quiet as Alastair looks away. He swallows, then looks back.]

My older sister.
secondborn: (I'm listening)

[personal profile] secondborn 2012-11-08 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[He shrugs.]

There aren't any rules against it. Most people know how the Balance works, in general, anyway. It's just the specifics that aren't widely discussed, I suppose.
secondborn: (thinking about it)

[personal profile] secondborn 2012-11-11 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[He's quiet again, not because it requires thought, but because his comment reminds him that he's not there with his sister right now.]

Yes, and no. No, because she can protect herself, to a certain extent. Our... the people in our land respect her as their Keeper. And... her specialty with it means she can use both sides of the Balance in... almost all ways possible. She's... she's incredibly powerful.

But... the world is Imbalanced and we're in the middle of it. And... the Imbalance causes her pain. A lot of pain. Because of that, yes. She does.

[He's not even going into the details of why the world is Imbalanced or the roving troops of Karonis soldiers that occasionally hunt them, either.]
secondborn: (okay kind of freaked out)

[personal profile] secondborn 2012-11-19 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[He runs his hands through his hair. He's agitated, but he's not going to avoid the question. It's just a very serious topic for him.]

It's... enormous, that's why. It's more than just a simple day-to-day Imbalance that could be rectified by the Keeper, it's... more widespread and deeply rooted than that. It's less of an Imbalance and more like... more like a complete destruction of the Balance. She can heal the symptoms of it, but... we don't know for sure how to fix it.
