I've got a question for the people-countries here. Or the country-people. Is there something you prefer to be called? I don't want to be rude, but I still don't really understand everything about it yet.

[An urgent look.]

But Spain said that sometimes, when a country is gone, the person just disappears! Is that true? Is it like dying, or do they go somewhere else? It doesn't seem right, for a person to just disappear into thin air after existing. I mean, I know no one lasts forever, but that's different from going 'poof.'

If you could answer me, I'd really appreciate it. I want to understand more about this.

And do any of you know Japan? What's he like?

For the most part it's all the same people who get moved around. Dying doesn't happen a whole lot.

Spain's usually not that clear. Most of us are at least a couple hundred years old.

A lot of countries are from a while ago, I think. I'm from 2011 so it's kind of weird.

[He's really just talking while he considers the question.]

I don't know if that sort of thing could really happen. Countries die when there's no one who participates in the culture anymore. If you brought it back later... I guess you'd create someone with the same name, but I don't think it'd be the same person. I don't know if that's ever happened, though.

Stuff like that happened a long time ago more than it did now. The countries who were in the Soviet Union got to go back home.

Yeah, I guess.

[Iceland hasn't been in many wars--not since a long time ago when he was very small. It seemed much sadder to him to lose people, but then again he was naturally biased toward his own citizens. Then again, the idea of losing another nation is so...]

It's hard to imagine countries dying, I guess. No one seems to be going anywhere, at least for now.

[This sort of thing, at least, he can treat as an intellectual exercise and not anything that might really happen. Teenagers and their invincibility.]

It's not like I'm gonna die soon or anything. I'm Iceland.

[The disappointment is pretty evident on his face, but he makes an attempt at acting as if he doesn't care anyway.]

I'm an island up north in Europe. On the arctic circle.

It's not that bad. There's a lot of really nice places to visit and it's not like it snows all the time, at least not in Reykjavik. There's lots of waterfalls and stuff...

[Iceland stop it you can't attract tourists here.]

Maybe once we all go home you could visit someday. Whenever we go home...
