12th Mishmash ~ [Video]

[ The moment the Doctor gets back into the city, he turns on the bracelet to, well. Announce his return. Except the moment it's started recording he seems to remember something, and instead he starts patting himself down, runs his tongue over his teeth and touches his chin and his nose and runs his fingers through his hair.

His hair which... isn't the same colour it usually is. But, naturally, he doesn't know that.

Ladies and gentlemen, the Doctor has ended up ginger. Temporarily, but he sure is ginger. ]

I still have the same body. Same chin, same nose, same teeth, same height, same everything. I died and I didn't change!

That is weird.

[ And he laughs, because it really is, and he starts walking about and basically doing... all sorts of things with his arms and legs, hopping and jumping and waving his hands. Because it sure feels exactly the same.

After a few moments of that, he starts talking. ]

Hello, everyone, I'm back! Did you miss me?

[ Before he ends the feed, he spreads his arms with a grin. ]

Something... like that. Everything's preparations really. But it was definitely productive. [She's got a little bit of a shifty sound to her voice, but she's definitely not going to spread this much further, not yet anyway.]

I'll tell you more about the trip sometime, though if you wanna hear about Dwarves and their stories, I've picked up a few.

Hey then. We've got ourselves a good excuse for the next talk. Or is that the sound of someone who really wants a dwarven tale right now?

Heh, patience not one of your strong suits, eh? Fine then. Why don't I tell the story of Andvari's gold? It reminded me a little of Midas actually when I heard it.

Andvari was a greedy dwarf with a love for wealth and gold. He had a fascination for the shine and glistening of silver, a love for the glow of gold in the evening light. His love and his lust for gold was so great that he forged for himself a ring, a ring that if worn could conjure more gold.

Of course, his greed was a weakness, but his sin wasn't the one that caused the real problem.

His greed led to a thing that brought about the downfall of many. Once upon a time, there was a captured princess of another land. The ransom they demanded was for the king who had claimed her to be buried in gold. Only Anvari had enough wealth to actually accomplish such a feet in those days. And so, the heroes of that land sought him out, searching for his gold.

Yes and no. Seeking him out wasn't the problem. It was what happened as they did it that caused the gravest error. He fled from them across the streams, turning into a trout. But, by hook and crook they caught him at the cave behind the waterfall he used for his home. As they were about to enter, the dwarf put a curse on the ring.

When at first they found all of the gold, they were convinced that they needed but one more golden piece to complete it. Had they given one of their own, or found another, all would have ended very differently. Anvari could have kept his ring, and gained his wealth back one day, and the rescue done...

Just one more, so they searched and they searched until they found it. The ring completed the set, you see, and they would not give up any of their own for this. They buried the king who'd done the kidnapping in his ill-gotten gold, and the curse fell first upon him. It would lead him to ruin, and his kingdom with him.

And his brother would follow him to ruin one day many years later when he'd convince a man to kill that king just so he could claim the hoard.

Indeed. First one, and then the other brother were killed by the hero Sigurd to claim the hoard. In the end, it claimed Sigurd's life, and with his death was one of those things they say started the beginning of the end. But I'd imagine there are so many versions of those that who can say. Nobody's ever found the ring to be sure, but who'd want a cursed ring?

It might still. Since Sigurd's death, they say Anvari never found it again, so it might be more just a legend and a tale, or it might be real and lost.

Hah. Yeah, but I'm personally not in the mood to tangle with a dwarf's curse not over money anyway. There's more valuable things in the world than gold.

Why would I? I wouldn't... and that's the only reason I could see to own the ring. Unlimited gold doesn't have much alchemical value, so I don't really want the thing even if it does exist.

Money... it doesn't actually help anything. It just paints a target on you.

I'll buy that. Curiosity is sort of ... well, it's kind of a 'you' thing. To be honest, me, I'm more looking for power most of the time. It's no better a choice, if we look at history, but it's my choice.
