[Samantha opted, when setting up the feed, to go with voice only. She still looked like hell, and she didn't need anyone seeing or asking stupid questions. It wasn't their business. But, after speaking to Conan, she'd resolved that it was time to stop trying to hide from this place any further. When she spoke, her voice had a tired quality to it, but was still strong.]

So, Asgard.

I wanted to discuss something with those of you who will still speak with me right now. These powers that we have. Most of the people I see seem to think of them as a good thing, a blessing of sorts, or at least they partially make up for the tricks you had in your homeworlds. Right.

Here's the thing I wanted to talk about. Most I've spoken to seem to think of these powers as something that's being used to help other people around here, or to protect people that can't protect themselves. How do you people handle the fact that any of them can be abused, misused or mishandled? What do people around here do to prepare themselves to be protected if those powers get used for the wrong reasons? I've been thinking a lot lately about how people could protect themselves from some of these powers, and it worries me.

Not all of us are nice people, you know.

[Oh, she remembers you as well. There's even a wince when she sees your icon show up. Well, of all the people she probably offended the last time, she's going to count her blessings you're the first one to reply. There's much worse options.]

Pretty intentional, I assure you. I'm well aware of what I'm capable of, under the wrong circumstances.

[There's a few seconds of silence, as if Arya wants to say something but doesn't know how to start, and then the feed clicks off.]

[She's back an hour or so later. She's opted for text for now, because she doesn't want Sam to hear how vulnerable and scared she sounds right now.]

I think I need to see you.

[And, her guts officially turned to ice. She closed her eyes and kept from hyperventilating. Arya hadn't come to see her that night, thank god. She nodded to herself and opted for text as well, so that Arya can't hear how horrified and self-loathing right now.]

Yes, I think we do. I owe you more than an apology. You shouldn't have had to see any of that, Arya. Name the place and time, and please don't fuss over me too much if it's today. I'm a little bit of a mess.

[Oh, she knows that name. And she's got a few things to say.]

Why did you hurt him?

[She didn't recognize the name, but since Nakama said 'hurt,' and not 'kill,' that meant it was Karuika she was talking about. She hadn't even managed to hurt anyone else other than in terms of feelings. So, she knew Karuika, did she?

Wonderful, not that she hadn't expected that to happen. This was going to be a long day, she supposed. That sensation was obvious in her voice when she spoke.]

I assume you're a friend of Karuika's. I'm half-demon. I lost control of my other side, and acted like a demon instead of a person. It's not an excuse, but it's what happens with me. He came to see me, knowing that I was dangerous. Is... he recovering?

I'm a friend of Shou's, which means that this involves me.

[When she hears the explanation, she actually feels a twinge of pity. That's like carrying a curse around with you at all times, just waiting for it to be sprung.]

He was speaking when I visited him. He's still really jumpy, though, and badly hurt.

... there's no way for you to control this?

[Shou... that explained a lot.]

I've tried before. Never really found a way to manage it. It's not like I've got a regular headcase or anything, so I could just take a pill and keep it from happening. Demons are actually able to control it better than half-breeds, since they're always like this. We weren't built to handle it right. We're like deformed step children.

Not like I won't keep trying, but I tell people not to get close for a reason. I tried warning Shou, but I don't think he understood until now. Maybe he'll be smart and stay away finally.

And good. I'll leave Karuika the hell alone. The last thing he needs to see is my face.

But you can't be alone forever. No one can. No one deserves to be.

[Her anger is quickly deflating. She still hurts for Shou, and of course for Karuika, but... there's no villain here. There was no deliberate maliciousness. She just feels sorry for Samantha.]

I've done some pretty awful things while I was under the influence. It's really hard to think you deserve much of anything when you wake up covered in blood. You aren't the first to say what you're saying, but the tune changes when they see what I've done.

Shou's not wrong. Maybe I lost control, but it's still my hands that did it. I'm not really safe. But, if people refuse to ignore the warnings, I'm tired of stopping them. They saw me the other night. They'll either be smart and stay away, or they'll come back and one of these days they'll probably regret it, probably around the time they see the change in my eyes, but it's usually too late then.

That's... just the way things are. I was asking what I was asking because I'd rather give people a fighting chance against me... against a few people, actually. [Diva came to mind right about then.]

[No hard feelings, Samantha. Rose is a naturally prickly individual.]

You seem more amiable than last time we crossed paths.

[They share that in common. She's just in a penitent mood today. Something about her coming down and crashing from the demonic 'high' and getting pounded did that.]

I suppose that I am. I'm thinking more clearly than I was at the time. I would take you up on the offer you made in the first place, but I don't know that you can help. I know the problem, and it's biological, not psychological.

[There's a long silence. Anything she says at this point will sound ignorantly optimistic to someone who has obviously been dealing with this for a long time. Gained and lost friends, loved ones, who knows how many people? It's -]

It's not fair. [She hates how much she sounds like a child, but that's all she can think of to say.]

Well, my own power is pretty hard to abuse, I think. I don't see how healing someone or yourself could be misused. As for protecting myself from the powers of other people, I have no clue. I used to get into a few fights when I was younger but I can't really do so anymore so, I really have no means of self protection.

[Wow. Way to sound kind of pathetic, Hisao. He clears his throat.]

Still, I think most people are essentially good. I haven't come across anyone here who I think would want to hurt anyone, so, that's something.

[With an obvious exception but that wasn't an all-day-every-day thing so he wouldn't count it.]

[That got a small, sad sounding chuckle. Samantha had said as much in her life before, but really what was the point in whining more about this? If she was stuck here, something had to give.]

No, no it really isn't. I didn't pick my dad, but there's times when he has more influence on my life than my mom did, and that's just cruel. But I'm not going to get anywhere feeling sorry for myself.

I've taken lumps for this before, and if the worst I get's a beating from Shou, then I'll live. If it... makes you feel better, there's a lot of very stubborn people in this place. I have trouble trusting them, but they seem convinced not to leave me alone.

Yes you have. [She counted it.] But besides me, Hisao, there are probably some people here who would use their powers in ways that aren't nearly so kind as you'd think. You're right that Healing seems easier to abuse, but it's also the sort of power that someone could use selectively, use only for a cost, withhold.

But, really, you're right. It's a power that's harder to abuse in the same way that mine is.

Don't worry about how I feel. That's not important right now.

But I am glad that there are people who are willing to stick with you. I saw the end result of your demon state, and I still don't think you deserve to be alone forever. That's something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

[She frowned and sighed, shaking her head.]

You saw what I did to Karuika, yes. I did mean it, however, when I said I've woken up covered in blood. I've killed people before. Just... keep that in mind when you make assumptions. Karuika was a little lucky that my other half was trying to see what she could get away with, but I was probably lucky he didn't use his powers.

Just... don't assume you've seen the worst.

[That was as close as she was willing to get to actually just outright saying that Karuika wasn't the worst she'd done that night. He was the one that lived. But she didn't want to admit that tonight.]

Being alone isn't as bad as you think it is, though it's pretty scary for some people I guess. I'm sort of used to it. But, you're right. The person that really needs concern right now's Karuika, and other folks. I would prefer they not be at risk.

Fine. If we count the other evening then I've met some portion of another person that wants to harm others.

Well, yeah, I can see that. Some people might want a reward or something, or not want to help certain people. But I think, with everyone in Sigyn House, there's a general personality type that isn't the sort to withold aid from someone. If I see someone hurt, I help. It's all I can do without feeling like some kind of scumbag, you know?

That's a risk anywhere you go, powers or none.

Yes, though there are ways to protect against things. Kevlar protects against bullets. Antidotes are for poisons. There's got to be something people can do to protect themselves. These things aren't unbeatable, are they?

A lot of us know how to fight. And some people have healing powers or powers suited for defense. It's not like we're without options. I guess it really just depends from person to person.

(OOC: Ignore the last part. I was lazy. Moved too quick on that. She's sticking to Audio. sorry about that.)

God, you really are a stubborn one, aren't you? heh.

There's also a lot of people in Sigyn house, the last I'd checked. So, even if someone refuses, there might be someone else around who can help still. But yes, I understand what you mean about not being able to just let something continue that shouldn't be. There's a reason I'm asking about this.

I'm... asking more for the folks who aren't that well set up with powers to protect themselves for certain things. The right power, strong will, that sort of thing can help, but I want to know what sorts of things people've figured out for defense here. I kind of wonder how many folks really thought about someone using Body Control on them, for one.
